Mateo Sullivan serves as Executive Chef at LouVino in Douglass Hills, Kentucky. Born in Hobart IN, Mateo has called Louisville home where he began his journey in the culinary industry. A 2012 graduate of Sullivan University with a degree in culinary arts, Mateo began his career at the historic Brown Hotel as an intern and upon completion was offered a position on the Hotels catering team. Mateo also served as head Pizziolo at 21C’s Garage bar, where he acquired an affinity for making wood fired Pizzas and experimenting with different cooking methods. From Garage Bar, Mateo headed to LouVino in the Highlands in 2009 where he served as Sous Chef, assisting with curating LouVino’s Chef driven Menu. 

Mateo earned the position of Executive Chef in 2022 at LouVino Douglass Hills. One of his favorite roles as Executive Chef is being part of the various food and wine events and the opportunity to explore new flavors, finding inspiration from these events. 

Chef Mateo enjoys working with locally sourced, seasonal ingredients and supporting local agriculture, finding it provides the freshest, most delicious dishes to LouVIno guests. Mateo’s biggest inspiration is his grandmother where some of his earliest memories are eating her Puerto Rican dishes like Arroz con Gandules and bringing the family together. He’s also inspired by his wife Abbi’s support and encouragement, who he met and LouVino and recently married! When Mateo isn’t in the Kitchen, you’ll find him hanging out with his wife Abbie and dog Cici. They enjoy gardening, travel and watching sports, you can usually find him watching a game on TV!
